Ten Things to be Happy About 7/1

I need a healthy dose of gratitude today. It’s been one of those days where every nerve in my body seems to be agitated. From large life issues to the post office changing their lunch hour, everything I do today seems to challenge me.

So I think it’s time to sit back and find a little thanks. Life is beautiful and often far too short to be taken for granted.

1. Tomorrow is my last day of work this week! I’m very excited about this. Short weeks are the best!

2. Wednesday, Husband and I head to Alaska to celebrate a birthday, a wedding and the 4th of July! Below is a photo of beautiful Prince of Wales Island.

3. I got pretty new rain boots for our trip! I just hope they fit! Cute, right? You need rain boots on the boat. It’s wet and miserable if all you have a tennis shoes.

4. My freezer will soon be filled with fresh, wild salmon, halibut, shrimp and crab! The best part about having a family fishing lodge in Alaska is you pretty much have access to really good quality fish whenever you want it, all year round.

5. We have so many tomatoes on our plants! And we harvested two cucumbers and two jalapenos this weekend…oh, and one strawberry last week that went right into my mouth! These were the first tomatoes that popped up on our Early Girl. The plant is full of them now!

6. I get to see my mommy this week! I haven’t seen her in almost a month.

7. I have the most amazing husband ever! Just saying… )

8. I am alive. I’m going to stop at number eight today. Because what more matters? I have this day. I may not have tomorrow, but I have today and I’m going to stop writing now, and go out and enjoy the heck out of it!

Ten things to be happy about 5/30/12

I haven’t written one of these posts in a while. I’m not really sure why. But I thoroughly enjoy them and it’s a good practice in gratitude, which everyone can use a healthy dose of every now and then.

1. My  brother is bringing me Starbucks! I can’t wait. I am seriously dragging today.

2. Tonight is yoga! When we started, I was nervous about the heat because the place we go to basically only does classes with some amount of heat. It’s been okay, though. I’ve actually been really enjoying it.

3. This weekend is my friend Stephanie’s bachelorette party! We rented a house and we’re spending the weekend relaxing, eating delicious food, and doing all sorts of girly fun stuff.

4. I am almost finished editing photos from Jim’s dad’s wedding! And they turned out pretty great. I’m happy with them. This is one of my favorites so far.

5. My friend Reanna and I are Costco shopping for the weekend today. I know maybe that makes me kind of lame, but I love Costco!

6. Jim and I are going to Alaska this year! We’ll be spending the 4th of July there as well as attending a wedding of close family friends of mine. I’m beyond excited! Below is one of my favorite photos from our last trip in 2009…too long ago.

7. I joined a new book club! Two might be a bit to keep up with, but that’s okay. Just another excuse to read more! And I’m really excited about meeting and getting to know a new group of girls. You can never have too many friends…or read too many books!

8. We got a new juicer! Not that there was anything wrong with our old juicer. We’re donating it to a friend, and we upgraded. Our new one can do more greens and also can make almond butter and ice cream, which is really exciting!

9. I made a really yummy quinoa salad two nights ago. We’ve been eating it for dinner the past two nights, and I have it for lunch today. Just another hour and a half! P.S. I’ll be posting the recipe soon!

10. I got my wedding ring cleaned yesterday! And its so shiny and pretty today.  It’s an amethyst, so it’s purple, and when it’s clean the stone turns to such a dark color. It’s almost like a different ring.

Your turn! What are some things you’re really happy about today?

Ten things to be happy about 04/03

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

It’s a lovely morning here in Northern California, and like most lovely mornings, I’m stuck in a small office with nothing but a sliver of natural light and the sound of air hoses and large machinery to illuminate my day.  But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot to be happy about!

1. I get to leave work early today! And that’s going to segue into….

2. I am going to see the endocrinologist today. Hopefully they can give me some insight on my fatigue issues. Hopefully today I will have some answers as to why I’m always so tired.

3. Jim got a job! He started yesterday, and I’m really excited for him. He seems like he’s going to enjoy it. I’ll miss having the house cleaned for me, but I guess it’s a good trade off.

4. Jim and I had a fun-filled weekend with family and friends!

This little one turned 6, and had an adorable cowgirl party on Saturday.

Sunday we went to the vineyard and helped teach a new baker how to serve wedding cake.

5. I’m going to have a photography business! I submitted about half of my paperwork last week, so now I just wait to get it back. And I have my first wedding booked in May, so everything is really coming together. I’m super excited!

6. I got to get back into my wedding dress! Jim and I posed for a promotional photo shoot for the vineyard. Some of them turned out really great!

7.I get to make my nephew’s first birthday cake! His party is going to be fishy themed, so I’m going to make a goldfish bowl cake, I think. I’m not the greatest at decorating, but I can make it work. And I’m making cupcakes for everyone else.  With fishies too.

8. My little brother is coming home for Easter! He is going to school in Reno, which is not terrible far from home, just far enough that I don’t get to see him too often.

He’s the one on the left. The one on the right is my other bro, who I’m fortunate enough to see every day at work.

9. Looking at the photo of Jim and I from the other day, I’m realizing I may just get some good wedding photos after all. I’m plagued every time I think about it by the knowledge that I chose the wrong wedding photographer. Of everything about my wedding, I regret that choice most. In fact, it’s about the only thing I regret. She had an amazing portfolio, but somehow we just didn’t get the quality she’s capable of.

10. That being said, I know I am a good photographer. I set up and posed the shot of Jim and I from above. I did everything but hit the shutter button. I CAN take good photos, and I will be a great photographer. I care enough about people not to leave before the bouquet is thrown and to recognize that direct sunlight is harsh and will cast obnoxious shadows (see my face in the photo with my brothers). I can only hope that in 20 years, I will still care as much and won’t become jaded enough to let a bride pay for shoddy photos.

I hope everyone is having a great Tuesday and an amazing week. Oh, and if you need your wedding photographed, shoot me an email!

10 things to be happy about 2/21

It’s been a while since I wrote up a “ten things” post, and I think that makes me pretty overdue for one. For that matter, it’s been a few days since I’ve posted anything. I’m not sure where my lack of motivation comes from. I guess sometimes I just don’t have anything to say. Or maybe I have so many things going on in my head that I can’t pluck just one of them out to write about.

Anyway, here they are, in no particular order:

1. Winter sunsets. Is there anything more beautiful?

2. Jim and I are, once again, spending about a week up at the vineyard. I can’t explain it, but being up there just feels like home. Maybe it’s the amazing house, or the breathtaking sunsets (see above), but somehow I think it probably has more to do with the fact that we’re surrounded by “family.”

3. I got a cute new dress yesterday! With less money than usual, new things become more and more exciting. It’s so cute and springish. I need to find a cute belt to go with it though. My brown one might go, but not the black one…

4. Trying not to jinx it, but I’m so excited! I might have a wedding to co-photograph in May. Crossing fingers, knocking on wood and searching for 4-leaf clovers!

5. I got my new camera bag! It was love at first sight! It looks more like a purse than a camera bag AND it fits all of my stuff! And it’s purple! The love never ends…

6. There’s promise of a delicious fish sandwich for dinner tonight. We’re going to Jim’s parents’ house for his brother-in-law’s birthday dinner. And his step dad is cooking, which means this fish sandwich is going to be off the hook!

7. Do you ever get that feeling like things are moving around you? Like little bits of your life are falling into place, but you might not necessarily be able to see the big picture yet? Am I getting a little too deep here? Anyway, I feel like that’s happening. And I’m kind of excited for the big picture to come into focus.

8. I am an organization freak. And I’m in the middle of the most wonderful pantry reorganization! I’m a little giddy about it.

9. Bear with me, I’m a little behind, but I just discoveredjumped on the Pinterest bandwagon. And I’ve been uploading my own photos. And it’s an INDESCRIBABLE feeling when someone repins my photo on a board labeled “awesome photography.” It’s the most amazing validation ever!

I know, I'm lame, but look at the caption! eeep!!!

10. You knew he was coming! MY HUSBAND. Since he’s been out of work, I haven’t had to clean the kitchen more than..maybe twice. I could get used to this! But aside from the cleaning, he keeps me going. He’s my best friend, the love of my life and I’m not sure how I ever lived without him.

Our first dating anniversary

Okay, so I have more than 10 today!

11. We got Weekend at Bernie’s! We lost our copy a few months ago and we found it on sale for $4.99 at Best Buy on Sunday! Woo Hoo!

I hope everyone is having a lovely week!

10 things to be happy about 02/08

Today is a happy feeling day. It’s strange because I feel like I need my happy list when I’m feeling crappy, but also it feels right to list these things when I’m already feeling happy. So anyway, here goes!

1. All of my W-2s and other tax crap are in and ready to be filed! I love being able to check things off my list and this one equals extra cash in my pockets!

2. Tonight is fish taco night! We are going to Jim’s parents’ house for dinner and his step dad is cooking. This man is the best cook EVER. He actually catered our wedding. And his fish tacos are pretty dang to-die-for.

3. My book club is starting back up! I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I heard we were starting again. This month’s book:

4. We finally got our bikes back from the repair shop! And it’s been sooo nice out lately, I think we may just take them for a spin this weekend.

5. I published my photography website! It’s actually LIVE! Not just finished and ready to send into the world. stephaniesutherlin.com if you wanna check it out!

6. I may have a photo shoot this weekend! A girl from work, though, not through the website, but I’ll take them as they come!

7. I’m having lunch with my mom! She’s been out of town for a week, and she’s making polenta with roasted vegetables. I’m beyond excited. We are also, probably, watching an episode of One Tree Hill…we’re behind a season because neither of us thought to set the DVR, so we had to wait until it came out on DVD, but that’s okay because now we can watch them all in a row instead of having to wait a week between episodes!

8. Tomorrow night is The Bachelor night with my sister-in-law. I know, we’re behind, but the only way we can watch it together is if we wait for a day we can both spare a couple of hours. And this week it’s Thursday. So don’t tell me what happened if you’ve already seen it!

9. I’m getting a new camera bag! I don’t know which one yet, but I know my gear has far outgrown my bag!

10. And, of course, as always, my amazing husband,  who makes me happy every day of my life (and who, by the way, will NOT watch The Bachelor with me).

It’s almost the middle of the week. I hope everyone is having a lovely one!
